Suspect In Custody After Shooting Incident Near Berryhill High School

A suspect is in custody after an incident with Tulsa County Deputies near Berryhill High school.

Deputies say they were called to a home near the school on Monday where someone was shooting at a car with a victim inside. While deputies were surrounding the house a school employee spotted the suspect, Daniel Lorta, walking through the parking lot of the high school. TCSO says deputies raced over to the school and found Lorta and took him into custody after a short chase through a nearby field. Deputies also found a gun that they say Lorta was carrying.

“He either went out the back as we had just one or two deputies in the front or he escaped the house before we got here. I’m assuming he had left before we got here just by the distance he traveled in the short time.”

Berryhill Public Schools was placed on a soft lockdown due to the incident, according to Berryhill school officials. The lockdown was lifted just after 2:50 p.m.

Deputies arrested Lorta just last week for assault with a deadly weapon and he bonded out of jail. He will now be booked again into the Tulsa county jail for several more charges. Deputies say the victim's car wasn’t hit, but a neighbor's car was hit by a bullet.
