Officer Critically Injured In Crash While Escorting Fallen Officer's Body

A McAlester police officer has life-threatening injuries after a collision near 141st Street and Highway 75 Friday night, according to authorities.

The driver of the truck that collided with officer Joseph Barlow's car has been arrested by Glenpool Police Department, authorities said.

Authorities said Martin Rodriguez Rivas was arrested "on the complaint of driving without a valid license and driving illegally while causing great bodily harm."

The Barlow was escorting a fallen officer's body when the collision happened.

A truck headed north on Highway 75 failed to stop for the procession and took evasive action to avoid a collision with stopped traffic, authorities said.

During the evasive action, the truck driver crossed the center median, went through a guard rail, and hit the officer's car head-on, authorities said.

Barlow remains in critical condition in a Tulsa hospital after going through multiple surgeries to try to save his life after the accident.

Barlow's sister shared in a Facebook post "thank you OHP for your escort. All of these men and women in blue have gone above and beyond for our family and we will be forever grateful. It truly is a brotherhood".

Authorities said an investigation is ongoing.

This is a developing story.
