American Airlines Notifies Tulsa Employees Of Layoffs, Furloughs

American Airlines has sent out a notice to Tulsa employees that layoffs and furloughs are coming.

The company mentioned COVID-19 in the letter as the main reason for the cuts.

American Airlines said it carefully analyzed the options, but as result of unforeseeable circumstances beyond its control, specifically the pandemic, the company had no other choice than to reduce its staff.

American Airlines said it plans to lay off 114 employees and furlough more than 1,000 other employees in October.

The company said it hopes the number decreases through employees taking voluntary leaves of absences and voluntary early outs - or changes in demand for the airline industry.

American Airlines said the furloughs are expected to be temporary but doesn't say exactly how long it expects them to last.
