Starting Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against the Houston Rockets, OKC Thunder fans will no longer have to provide proof of vaccination or proof of a negative test to go to games. 

Kids two through 11 are also no longer required to wear mask. 

The Thunder say the change is due to current COVID numbers and vaccination rates. 

While cases have risen some, they have significantly dropped from where they were compared to just a few months ago. 

The state health department also shows the percentage of Oklahoma County residents 12 and older who are fully or partially vaccinated has risen to more than 85 percent. 

The Thunder say they work closely with OU Health to make these decisions, and that they are prepared for what the future may hold, even if that includes a new variant or a substantial rise in cases. 

"If something happens like a variant comes in and cases rise to where they were at the height of the previous variant. Sure, we will continue to look at it and make necessary adjustments," said Dan Mahoney, Vice President of Broadcasting & Corporate Communications 

Even though the Thunder are lifting these requirements, the organization is still encouraging fans who come to get their vaccine, and mask up at games, even if they are not required to do so. 

Vaccination and testing requirements for fans sitting court side will not change at this time due to them being determined by the NBA.
