A small group of activists from a Kansas church that has been classified as a hate group held a protest at Owasso High School on Wednesday in relation to the death of 16-year-old Nex Benedict.

They were outnumbered by hundreds of counter-protesters who carried signs supporting LGBTQ students.

From an ethical standpoint, we chose to do minimal coverage of this group in order to balance giving them publicity but also understanding that the public has a right to know what is happening in their community.

News On 6 had a crew present to monitor the situation in case the protest became violent.

While there was a lot of yelling between the groups, it ended without incident.

Dozens of law enforcement officers from across the area were there on Wednesday.
