Thirty-five high school students from across the state arrived at Keystone Lake in Mannford for competitive fishing. Each student was paired with a professional angler.

Retired professional anglers like Kenyon Hill took the opportunity to share wisdom to younger fishermen.

"These kids are like sponges,” Hill said. “They just get enough information.”

Hill helped coordinate the varsity fishing tournament.

Many high school fishing tournaments were canceled due to COVID-19. Hill believed Sunday’s event was a great way for the young folks to have some fun again.

"Fishing is a pretty safe deal because you are out in the sun which helps against the virus,” Hill said.

Norman High School student Sean O’Brien had the pleasure of fishing with Hill.

The tournament started early Sunday morning. O’Brien caught two fish early, but he didn’t stop there.

"I'm trying to go for five,” O’Brien said.

Hill’s hope is to make the tournament an annual event.
